The ruins of an old (and partially destroyed) church. It was abandoned after the second world war, during which is suffered damage. We passed it on the way back from the dacha, and since it was a long journey, where the time factor was of the utmost immportance, I only had the chance to photograph it from the gas station, though I would've really liked to have the chance to examine it a little closer. Sorry about the power lines going accross the shot....

the power lines do kind of distract the picture. also if the trees weren't there, it would be a better view of the entire church. but overall, a very nice shot

he has become my salvation.
He is my God, and I will praise him,
my father's God, and I will exalt him.

When we were driving away, I realised if I'd walked a little further I could've taken a far better pic, alas....
The phone lines are a bit of a distraction, but I think it's a great picture anyway. In my opinion, the trees lend to the picture, showing how decayed it has become, and overrun by nature.

I actually quite like the power lines there. It's like a deliberate anachronism... a ruined old church and modern technology all in one photo! Quite odd. Where exactly did you go on holiday again? Had fun?

I do have a life! Plenty, in fact. I just took five last week and haven't disposed of them yet.
It was pretty much surrounded by trees and shrubbery (as you can tell by the greenery sprouting from it); what was really disappointing for me was that this shot doesn't really capture the size and (lost, in some ways at least) magnificence of the imposing structure - you only capture a glimpse of the upper part of the building (I used 4x magnification so that you don't see any of the gas station, but it's also made me avoid having an object in the photo for comparative purposes, so you can feel the scale of the thing). I'd love an opportubity to go about the area and take a few more photos (at least double figures I'd say...).
St. Petersburg, and then to a dacha (holiday home) that was closer to Moscow....
The power lines weren't intentional - if you'd seen the ruins in person you'd understand that throwing any other concepts into a decent picture would be unnecessary - alas, a decent picture, we lack
I will say that yours is a rather kind and in-depth interpretation of the shot that's helped me see it and consider things in a different light, so thank you.
So would I, I really need to go there. Old buildings are a favorite. :D

That's really awesome, I have always wanted to go see some really old ruins in Europe...instant fav.

I wouldn't say that the ruins were especially old, but I would've liked to take a look around, take a few closer pictures - based on what I could see it could've been a very beautiful building at one point in time....
